The FBI and the U.S. National Counterintelligence and Security Center has released a video warning against China's intelligence threats.
They say the film is allegedly based on a real case, but a Chinese newspaper has criticized that the film smears China with accusations of espionage, and worsens Washington-Beijing relations.

Mok-yeon, the FBI says the 26-minute video, titled "The Nevernight Connection," aims to increase awareness of Chinese intelligence threats on social media.
The film shows Chinese intelligence services recruiting a former U.S. Intelligence Community official by using a fake profile, in order to gain access to classified information.
The FBI says the movie is based on the real-life case of a former CIA agent, who was sentenced to 20 years in prison for spying for China.
Soon after the film's release, the Global Times largely criticized the video.
Citing Chinese analysts, it reported that the U.S. is trying to further escalate U.S.-China tensions, as competition between the two countries deepen.
It added that the U.S. has accused China of spying without providing any substantive evidence, and analyzed that the real purpose behind it, is to divert the public's attention from various issues happening within the U.S.
