Seoul's top nuclear envoy wrapped up his trip to Washington.
He expressed satisfaction at the meeting held with his American counterpart, especially pertaining to North Korea related issues.
Han Seong-woo shares with us his remarks.
South Korea's top nuclear envoy Lee Do-hoon told reporters on Wednesday, U.S. local time, that his talks with U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Stephen Biegun were productive towards actualizing peace on the Korean peninsula.
"Since we had very broad and meaningful discussions, I believe a better foundation that will continue to serve us well has been created."
The two diplomats had met in Washington earlier this week to discuss North Korea-related issues, including the regime's recent killing of a fisheries official from the South.
Lee's trip came shortly after South Korean President Moon Jae-in urged international efforts to declare an end to the Korean War, which he said would eventually prompt the Communist state to give up its nuclear ambitions.
The two Koreas technically remain at war with each other with only an armistice between them.
Seoul's bilateral discussions with Washington will continue during U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo's visit planned for next week.
