U.S. reimposes sanctions on Tehran, urges Pyeongyang to return to negotiations

U.S. President Donald Trump is ready to make progress towards the final, fully verified denuclearization of North Korea.
He made the point in a message to the IAEA General Conference this week... as Washington puts maximum pressure on Tehran... by reimposing sanctions at the same time urging Pyeongyang to return to denuclearization talks.

U.S. President Donald Trump has said the U.S. remains ready to make progress towards the final, fully verified denuclearization of North Korea.
In a written message to the 64th General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency on Monday, President Trump said member countries should maintain and strengthen nuclear non-proliferation.
He urged Pyeongyang to return to negotiations to ensure a brighter future for the North Korean people.
On Iran, the U.S. President said the international community must ensure that Iran adheres to the commitments, to prevent it from ever obtaining a nuclear weapon.
His remarks come as the Trump administration unveiled a new set of punitive measures against around 20 institutions and individuals linked to Tehran.
Included are Iranian figures involved in Pyeongyang's missile development... Iran's Defense Ministry and its ballistic missile program... as well as the leader of Venezuela's regime, Nicolas Maduro... for allegedly helping Iran's weapons programs.
"For nearly two years, corrupt officials in Tehran have worked with the illegitimate regime in Venezuela to flout the UN arms embargo. Our actions today are a warning that should be heard worldwide. No matter who you are, if you violate the UN arms embargo on Iran, you risk sanctions."
The new sanctions are a unilateral move by the U.S. after it withdrew from the 2015 Iranian nuclear deal in 2018.
President Trump's emphasis on FFVD... is seen as a warning for Pyeongyang to refrain from provocations before the presidential elections.
Pundits caution that North Korea could fire a submarine-launched ballistic missile or new strategic weapon next month.
