Taking public transportation in Seoul is about to get a touch more pricey.
The city government and city council are pushing to raise minimum bus and subway fares by 200 to 300 won that's around twenty to thirty U.S. cents.
In addition, the current surcharge for each five kilometers is ten cents, but they are reviewing whether to raise that to 20.
The goal is to hike prices in the first quarter of 2021.
The Seoul subway system has been losing money due to policies such as free rides for elderly.
The COVID-19 pandemic has just made the financial problems worse.
The last increase to public transportation fares was in 2015.
