미 민주 전대, 풍선•환호 없는 화상 전대…'거대한 줌콜' 흥행 성공할까

The Democratic National Convention kicks off in a few hours,... with an event unlike any other,... as the COVID-19 pandemic forced Democrats to scrap their planned in-person convention in Wisconsin.
Instead speakers will deliver their speeches from locations across the country on a virtual platform.
Lee Seung-jae reports.
The four-night Democratic National Convention kicks off on Monday, local time.
However,... the COVID-19 pandemic has forced Democrats to scrap their planned in-person Milwaukee convention,... instead holding the event virtually.
This means speakers will deliver speeches from across the U.S.,... and without the crowds that are typically seen at these events.
The unprecedented convention will focus on the theme of 'unity'.
Among the top speakers on the first night include former First Lady Michelle Obama and once-Democratic presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders.
Also in the spotlight will be a Republican and former Ohio governor John Kasich,... who is a well-known anti-Trumper.
The virtual convention's main hubs will be in four cities: New York, Los Angeles, Milwaukee and Joe Biden's hometown of Wilmington, Delaware,... where Biden and his running mate Kamala Harris will deliver their speeches later this week.
The hosts of the event,... who will be primarily broadcasting from LA, will lead each night's two-hour programs.
A production truck in Wilmington will monitor hundreds of live feeds from across the nation,... in an effort to build excitement and add reactions to the broadcasts.
Watchers say that, if the Democrats can keep viewers engaged throughout the four-day event,... it could change the way conventions are held moving forward.
