U.S. President Donald Trump has signed legislation slapping sanctions on China for its interference in Hong Kong's autonomy,... a move expected to further damage U.S.-China relations.

U.S. President Donald Trump is taking a harder stance on China.
The president on Tuesday issued an executive order and signed legislation that holds China accountable for what he called its "oppressive actions" against Hong Kong.
The executive order issued by Trump would end preferential treatment for Hong Kong.
Hong Kong's status as China's global financial hub would be gone and the territory would be treated the same as mainland China, with no special privileges, no special economic treatment and no export of sensitive technologies.
He also signed into law legislation that had passed both houses of Congress earlier this month.
"This law gives my administration powerful new tools to hold responsible the individuals and the entities involved in extinguishing Hong Kong's freedom."
The legislation will impose sanctions on Chinese government officials for imposing a new national security law, that's widely seen as eroding the "one country, two systems" framework and depriving Hong Kong of its autonomy.
Under the legislation, banks doing business with those officials could also be sanctioned.
During the briefing on Tuesday, Trump also said he holds China fully responsible for concealing COVID-19 and unleashing it upon the world.
He also showed unwillingness to resolve the issue through dialogue, by stressing that he has "no plan" to speak to Chinese President Xi Jinping in the near future.
Following Trump's announcement, China's Foreign Ministry released a statement on Wednesday, condemning the U.S.
The statement claims the U.S. legislation interferes in China's internal affairs and seriously violates international law.
