More colleges and states are joining forces to sue the U.S. federal government, seeking an injunction against the Trump administration's new visa rule for international students.
Over 200 schools have signed court briefs supporting Harvard University and MIT as they sue U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement in a federal court in Boston.
Massachusetts and Democratic attorneys general in 16 other states as well as Washington DC have joined as well.
They argue the move jeopardizes students' safety because of COVID-19 and that it forces schools to reconsider their fall plans which they have spent months preparing.
The lawsuit challenges a recently announced directive that says international students cannot stay in the U.S. if they take all their classes online this fall.
