The North Korean military has made it official that it'll redeploy troops along the border... as well as resume military exercises... a move that would raise inter-Korean tensions.

North Korea has made it official that it'll carry out measures to nullify the inter-Korean Comprehensive Military Agreement which was forged in 2018 in a bid to reduce tensions.
In a statement carried by the state-run Korean Central News Agency on Wednesday, the General Staff of the Korean People's Army said it'll redeploy units to the Mount Geumgang tourist area as well as the Gaeseong Industrial Complex.
This means North Korea could redeploy the troops it had pulled back in 2003 to allow South Korean officials and civilians access to commence the construction of the industrial complex.
At the time, the North had moved two corps and an artillery brigade out of the Gaeseong and Panmunjeom area.
The North's statement also implies that it could resume military exercises near the southwest naval front... near the Northern Limit Line.
The move would go against efforts to build a maritime peace zone under the military agreement ... aimed at preventing accidental naval clashes and guaranteeing safe fishing activities.
The statement also said it'll redeploy troops to near the border.
That would undo the progress made following the 2018 military agreement which saw 11 guard posts on each side either destroyed or decommissioned and kept for historical purposes.
North Korea is expected to continue to undo the inter-Korean military pact bit-by-bit and use it as a bargaining tool... to up the ante in the stalled denuclearization talks with Washington.
Seoul's defense ministry has reiterated to the North that it must stick to the military pact for the sake of peace on the Korean peninsula.
The South Korean military has warned that North Korea will pay heavily if it goes ahead with actions that nullify the inter-Korean efforts to maintain peace on the peninsula.
