Social media has been flooded with a black-out-tuesday hashtag a day promoted by activists to observe, mourn and try to bring about police reform in the U.S.
Millions of users have shared black screens in solidarity with the black victims of police violence in the United States,... with many tagging their posts with hashtags saying black-lives-matter and BLM.
However, critics say these posts, while well-meaning, could clog up critical channels of information and updates.
It began as a proposed day of reflection by music industry insiders after the death of George Floyd.
It was thought up by two music industry executives to observe "the long-standing racism and inequality" in the U.S. and to pause business for a day.
