The U.S. says supports inter-Korean cooperation, but joint projects must proceed in "lockstep" with progress on denuclearization.
It's a phrase commonly-trotted out by the U.S.,... but its first response against Seoul's former top aide.
During an interview with a local magazine, Im Jong-seok said Washington's point man on North Korea, Stephen Biegun "put pressure" on Seoul just before the landmark inter-Korean summit in 2018.
Im also added South Korea was told to hold until Biegun "figured out his job and gave the okay."
Previously Washington has expressed that it supports joint inter-Korean projects and said is in coordination with Seoul.
Im was imprisoned in early 1990 for masterminding an unauthorized visit to North Korea by a member of the National Council of Student Representative, in violation of South Korea's national security law.
