With many questions revolving around who should be the wicketkeeper for the longer format, former India cricketer Sachin Tendulkar said that age should not be criteria when it comes to selection. If the player is fit and in form, that player should be given a chance. “Whoever is good should be given a go. It is not about a youngster or such things. If Saha is fit and fit enough to deliver, he should be given a go. Similarly, if Pant is fit, he should be.' said Sachin.

सचिन से जब युवा खिलाड़ी और फिटनेस पर सवाल पूछा गया तो उन्होंने कहा कि वो चयन संबंधी नीतियों में नहीं पड़ना चाहते लेकिन वो कहते हैं कि सेलेक्शन का पैमाना फिटनेस होना चाहिए ना कि उम्र. सचिन बोले, 'जो अच्छा है, उसे मौका दिया जाना चाहिए. यह युवाओं को मौका या ऐसी ही कोई और बात नहीं है. अगर साहा खेलने के लिए फिट हैं तो उन्हें खेलना चाहिए. इसी तरह अगर पंत फिट हैं तो उन्हें मौका दिया जाना चाहिए.' सचिन ने कहा कि सेलेक्शन का पूरा फैसला टीम प्रबंधन के हाथ में होता है. अब कहने को एमएस धोनी की उम्र 38 साल हो चुकी है. लेकिन आज भी वो कई युवा क्रिकेटरों से ज्यादा फिट हैं.
