Students from HUFS translate COVID-19 prevention guidelines into 29 languages

If you can't understand the language, it's harder to get the information you need.
But, no need to worry if you're in Korea.
College students here have translated the COVID-19 prevention guidelines into 29 different languages for those who don't speak the Korean language.
Our Jang Tae Hyun reports.
Students from Hankuk University of Foreign Studies have translated the COVID-19 prevention guidelines into 29 languages.
Around 70 students from the university took part in the translations to help foreigners living in South Korea.
Students translated the contents into as many languages as possible and got them checked and approved by their professors afterwards.
"The Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention already offers English and Chinese versions. So we translated it into other languages based on the majors in our school."
Student translators were glad that they could use their skills to help the public.
"I've realized that many Indonesians are not familiar with the ways to prevent COVID-19. I was wondering how I could inform them and decided to translate the guidelines for them."
"I think it’s right to help people when you can help with the languages that you have already learned."
These translations will help non-Korean speakers understand what to do to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
And these translations will also be sent to the Korean government.
"I think it should be something done by the government. I am a student, I get it from my university, but I guess there’s a bunch more other foreigners that are also living in Korea that don’t have school translating it for them..."
From Spanish and Russian to Zulu and Vietnamese, the translations can be found on the university student council's pages on social media like Facebook and Instagram.
