A civet cat trapped in an abandoned well was saved by local rescuers in southern India.

The incident took place on February 3 in Tumkur district of Karnataka state.

Footage showed how two rescuers climbed down into the well using a ladder, and eventually drawing out the hiding civet cat into a cage.

According to reports, the rescuers had first placed the ladder in the abandoned well so that the civet cat would come out by itself.

Next, the rescuers can be seen freeing the civet, opening up the cage and letting the mammal out, as it jumps and leaves the group.
