2019 Seoul Lantern Festival lights up Cheonggyecheon Stream

Hundreds of colorful lanterns brighten up the autumn sky as the 2019 Seoul Lantern Festival takes place at Cheonggyecheon Stream.
This year's event draws inspiration from fairytales,... with a wide array of lantern art pieces on show.
Our Eum Ji-young takes us there.
A flying magic carpet to save the princess from the fairytale Aladdin and the Magic Lamp lights up the Seoul sky.
The Little Prince and Little Red Riding Hood also welcome the guests.
They are just a few of the more than 70 sets of lanterns along the Cheonggyecheon Stream in central Seoul where the festival takes place every year.
"Unlike previous years, this year's event features widely loved characters from fairytales with a theme of 'Seoul, Your Fairy Tale' so that both guests from Korea and foreigners can relate to the festival."
The festival, which is in its 11th year has 1.2 kilometers of displays including eye-catching pieces from traditional Korean fairytales and key heroes from Korean history along with some of the city's iconic attractions and monuments.
"It's really beautiful. I really liked the lanterns because we don't do anything like this in my country.
I really liked the lanterns from the fairytales. I found them very beautiful and also I really liked the King Sejong sitting on the throne."
And there are plenty of other events for visitors to enjoy.
"Visitors to this year's Seoul Lantern Festival can float a wish boat along the Cheonggyecheon Stream or make their own lantern."
The event attracts more than 2 million people from around the globe every year.
"We are French bloggers in France about Korean culture so we want to promote Korean culture in France so this is why we came here because we know about this festival."
One of the main events on the festival calendar in Korea, this year's Seoul Lantern Festival runs until November 17th.
