Regional players react to N. Korea's latest provocations

As expected,... North Korea's latest provocation was condemned by regional players.
South Korea's national security advisor said the provocations have put inter-Korean relations in a difficult situation,... but said that it's not a big threat to the country's security.
Meanwhile, the U.S. and Japan have criticized the provocations,... calling them inappropriate or a violation of UN resolutions.
Kim Min-ji has more.
South Korea's national security advisor Chung Eui-yong says North Korea's missile capabilities are not that big of a threat to national security.
Speaking during a parliamentary audit of the presidential office on Friday,... Chung added that Seoul is keeping close tabs on North Korea.
He said that inter-Korean relations are going through difficulties due to the North's continued provocations this year,... but he brushed off public concerns,... saying that South Korea's defense capabilities are much stronger than its neighbors weapons.
"We're absolutely superior to North Korea in terms of missile defense and interceptor abilities but will continue to pursue further development. I don't see the missile capabilities now being developed by North Korea as a grave threat to our national security."
Over in the U.S., Clarke Cooper, Assistant Secretary of State for Political-Military affairs called North Korea's provocations an unfortunate and inappropriate act... that impedes Pyeongyang's ability to become a contributing member of the international community.
He said that it's a threat to not only South Korea and Japan,... but the rest of the Pacific region.
And he added that while there's room for talks and that President Trump has been very amenable,... missile launches are not helpful.
As for Japan,... it said the projectiles were short-range ballistic missiles and that their launch was a violation of UN Security Council resolutions.
Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga said the launch was regrettable... and that it's a threat to peace and safety in the region.
Suga also said that Tokyo is determined to closely cooperate with the U.S., South Korea and other allies to protect people's lives and assets.
