Twitter will ban all political advertisements across its social media platform starting on November 22, ahead of the 2020 U.S. election campaign.
The company's founder and CEO, Jack Dorsey announced on Wednesday that Twitter would halt all political advertising globally and said "political message reach should be earned not bought".
According to a Twitter spokesperson, only some ads including those encouraging people to vote will be allowed and full details on the exemptions will be released next month.
This comes amid scrutiny over Facebook's handling of political ads as it has been denounced for letting politicians run false ad campaigns that can deceive voters.
