S. Korea's National Assembly kicks off annual audit of government bodies

South Korea's National Assembly has started its annual audit of government ministries and their affiliated agencies.
For the next 20 days, 14 parliamentary committees will inspect 788 government bodies.
Three other committees, including the House Steering committee, will begin their audits on October 23rd.
This year's audit is expected to be especially contentious since it will be the last under the 20th National Assembly, and it comes ahead of next year's general elections.
Today, dozens of government organizations, including the Supreme Court and the ministries of foreign affairs, defense, education and science, are in the hot seat.
Rival parties have already started grilling officials over the corruption and fraud allegations surrounding Justice Minister Cho Kuk and his family, progress on denuclearization talks between North Korea and the U.S., as well as South Korea's trade spat with Japan.
