Samsung Electronics has won a contract to supply 5G network solutions to KDDI, one of the largest telecommunications operators in Japan.
The Korean tech giant announced today that it was chosen along with Sweden's Ericsson and Finland's Nokia.
Commercial services are expected to begin in March 2020 and run for five years.
Most of Samsung's 5G network solutions will be used in Tokyo.
Industry sources estimate the size of the contract to be around two billion U.S. dollars.
The firm's 5G network solutions are also used by local mobile carriers and by Verizon, the biggest telecommunications operator in the U.S.
