World Cup: Germany beats Algeria in extra time
  • 5 years ago
Andre Schuerrle and Mesut Ozil secured a 2-1 extra time victory to send Germany into a mouth-watering World Cup quarter-final meeting with France. The North Africans played with energy and confidence to regularly expose a static German defense, but in the end, the European’s power and fitness counted. With the score 0-0 at full time, Schuerrle, a substitute, flicked in a low-cross from Thomas Mueller. Ozil then buried the Algerian dream in the last minute, though Abdelmoumene Djabou grabbed a consolation goal for the brave Algerians before the final whistle. The victory extended Germany's remarkable record of reaching at least the quarter-finals in every World Cup they have entered since 1938. -- Mornings @ ANC, July 1, 2014.
