South Korea's National Assembly is holding confirmation hearings for President Moon Jae-in's picks for science minister and head of the country's anti-trust watchdog.
Rival parties have vowed to closely screen the nominees' competence as well as their ethics.
Choi Ki-young -- tapped to head the Ministry of Science and ICT -- was questioned on how he plans to boost the country's industrial competitiveness amid the trade spat with Japan.
Joh Sung-wook -- nominee to head the Fair Trade Commission,... fielded questions on reforming the country's conglomerates.
The confirmation hearings are widely seen as a formality... since the positions don't require parliamentary approval.
