Impact of Japanese export regulations on chip supplies to manifest in Q3
  • 5 years ago
Japan's regulations on chip supplies are expected to affect DRAM prices from the third quarter,... but don't appear to pose too big of a problem for production and shipments just yet.
According to DRAMeXchange,... although Japan has around a 70-percent share in the global market for the three materials which Tokyo tightened export controls on at the beginning of July,… Korean manufacturers may still acquire them from other places.
And since Samsung and SK hynix hold stockpiles that will last for around 2-and-a-half months, there won't be much short term impact.
The chip industry analysis firm explained that Korean DRAM suppliers sent documents to be reviewed by the Japanese government immediately after the start of export controls,... and if the first batch of controlled items is successfully exported to South Korea, then the problem over controlled materials may subside.
