Time now for our "Life & Info" segment... where we focus on information useful for your everyday life. And if you are a foreign resident leaving in Korea for a long time, you will want to pay close attention to this next story.
It has been revealed that non-Korean residents in South Korea who default on national health insurance fees will be required to pay for ALL medical costs out of their own pocket.
Under changes made to the National Health Insurance Act, which will take effect from July 16th, foreigners staying in the country for more than six months MUST sign up for the public health insurance plan.
Those who do not enroll or who fail to pay the premiums will be required to cover 100 percent of their own medical bills.
Foreign nationals will pay a minimum 96 U.S. dollars a month, …with the exact amount to be determined according to income and assets.
The rule will be temporarily waived for students and skill training visa holders, …but they too will be required to pay from March 2021.
