Senior S. Korean diplomat to visit U.S. to discuss Japan's export restrictions
  • 5 years ago
A senior South Korean diplomat in charge of economic affairs is heading to the U.S. today to discuss Japan's recent export restrictions.
On Thursday local time, Kim Hee-sang, director-general for bilateral economic affairs, is to meet Roland de Marcellus, acting deputy assistant secretary for international finance and development at the U.S. State Department.
The meeting was originally to prepare for high-level economic talks between Seoul and Washington, but it's highly likely that it will also touch on the recent retaliatory export restrictions by Tokyo.
Kim is also scheduled to meet with Marc Knapper, deputy assistant secretary for Korea and Japan.
