South Korean and Japanese officials could sit down for high-stakes talks in the coming days... on Tokyo's export restrictions on high-tech materials to South Korea.
The Japanese daily Yomiuri Shimbun reported on Tuesday that.... the meeting could take place as early as this week in Tokyo.
It's expected that Japan will stress the restrictions are not an embargo but a means to revise trade management.
Japanese officials are also likely to insist the move does not violate WTO rules.
On the other hand,... according to a source at Seoul's trade ministry,... South Korea is likely to raise its own questions and rebut Japan's recent suggestion... that their high-tech products may be finding their way into North Korea via the South.
