Trump administration may end up accepting N. Korea as nuclear state: Expert
  • 5 years ago
A U.S.-based nuclear weapons expert claims the Trump administration could be fine with accepting North Korea as a nuclear state.
Quoting Jeffrey Lewis, a scholar at the Middlebury Institute's Center for Nonproliferation Studies, the Washington Post published an article on Monday which said the administration's stance could be shifting.
Lewis focused on the remarks President Trump made following his hastily-arranged encounter with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un at the DMZ late last month.
Trump did not mention denuclearization at all, only highlighted (quote) "deliberate speed."
The interpretation is in line with the idea Washington could negotiate a nuclear freeze with Pyeongyang,... as was published by the New York Times in recent days.
