S. Korea approves gov't plan to provide 50,000 tons of rice to N. Korea for food aid

The South Korean government's plan to give 50-thousand tons of rice as food assistance to North Korea has been approved by a South Korea's committee promoting inter-Korean exchanges.
The committee is comprised of government and civilian panels.
50-thousand tons of rice will be delivered to the North via the World Food Programme to support over 2 million people across North Korea.
The government will be spending 23-point-6 million U.S. dollars to get the rice and 12 million dollars to help the WFP deliver and distribute it.
The unificaion ministry says the WFP will be strengthening the monitoring process to ensure that the food aid is distributed transparently.
