Trump says agreement reached with Mexico on migrants and tariffs
  • 5 years ago
On the trade front, U.S. President Donald Trump says he will not put new tariffs on Mexico after all,… saying the two sides have reached an agreement on the flow of migrants from Central America.
Tariffs of 5 percent on all goods from Mexico had been set to take effect on Monday unless Mexico stopped illegal migrants from reaching the U.S. border, but Trump tweeted Friday night that those tariffs are suspended indefinitely.
Mexico, he said, in turn, has agreed to take strong measures to stem the tide of migration.
The Mexican ambassador to Washington, Martha Barcena, also tweeted late Friday that Mexico will strengthen immigration enforcement and provide job, education and health opportunities for people who wait in Mexico until their U.S. asylum process is complete.
