South Korea's Jang Sung-hwa, permanent mission to the World Trade Organization in Geneva, has been elected as the chair of the Committee on Technical Barriers to Trade on Tuesday.
Seoul's foreign affairs ministry announced on Wednesday that Jang will serve as the chair until May 2020.
The Committee on Technical Barriers to Trade seeks to provide member states with information on other countries' standards and certification regulations.
With trade protectionism increasing the amount of technology regulation, the ministry said it hopes Jang's appointment will lead to greater implementation of technology regulation agreements.
