An African swine fever case was confirmed at a slaughterhouse in Hong Kong,... as the contagious virus has been spreading in China,... ultimately resulting in a soar in pork prices.
Against this backdrop,... South Korea's agricultural ministry will restrict the use of leftover food at pig farms in an effort to prevent the disease taking hold here.
The environment ministry said it will make the pre-announcement of the amendment to the Enforcement Rule on the Wastes Control Act to include such a measure.
Prices of pork belly jumped nearly five percent in South Korea this week compared to the previous week,... with the average price standing at two-point-three U.S. dollars per 1-hundred grams.
This is also a whopping 16-point-five percent increase from April.
