Chinese delegation still preparing for trip to U.S. for trade talks: Beijing
  • 5 years ago
China's trade delegation is still preparing to fly to the United States for another round of high-stakes talks with their American counterparts... despite President Trump's renewed tariff threats against Beijing.
China's Foreign Ministry reiterated that Beijing will continue its efforts to negotiate with the U.S.
"The pressing issue now is that we still hope the two sides would make concerted efforts, meet each other halfway and strive to reach a mutually beneficial and win-win agreement on the basis of mutual respect. This conforms to the interests not only of China and but also of the United States. (cut) What I can tell you here is that the Chinese delegation is preparing for a trip to the United States for the next round of trade talks."
Sources say China will send a smaller delegation than the 100-person group originally planned and it's unclear if Vice-Premier Liu He, China's top trade official, will participate in the talks.
It's also uncertain if they will arrive in Washington on Wednesday as previously scheduled.
