President Moon gathers former gov't officials, experts for advice on social issues
  • 5 years ago
We start at the top office....
President Moon Jae-in is meeting with officials from previous administrations,... to seek their advice on various state affairs.
For more on what's being discussed there, our reporter Park Hee-jun is on the line for us.
Hee-jun?
Just as you said, Ji-yoon.
President Moon is holding the talks over a working lunch with around a dozen 'elders' for their advice at the Blue House.
They include Yi-Hong-gu, a former prime minister who served under the previous Kim Young-sam administration,... and Yi Chong-chan, a former head of the National Intelligence Service.
Former ministers, former judicial officers, and professors are also at the lunch.
The meeting, that began just minutes ago at noon,... is focused on ways to better govern the country.
Various topics will be up for discussion, including government reform, employment issues, and ways to strengthen the social safety net.
President Moon is also likely to seek advice on how to achieve the Moon administration’s key vision of building an "embracing nation",... as well as evaluation on the progress made so far during his first two years in office.
A similar meeting was held last month,... where the president invited former economic officials to seek advice on various economic affairs.
Attendees are likely to be discussing openly and honestly about the pending issues in the country, in a casual atmosphere.
And with some even coming from the conservative side,... there may also be some criticism of the government's current policies at today's event.
That's all I have for you now.
I'll bring you more updates in the afternoon. Ji-yoon.
