President Trump says the U.S. did not pay any money to North Korea for Otto Warmbier,...a student who was arrested in Pyeongyang in 2016 for allegedly trying to steal a propaganda poster.
Warmbier fell into a comma while he was in custody, and was sent back to the U.S. in 2017 where he died 6 days after arrival.
Trump tweeted on Friday that "no money was paid to North Korea for Otto Warmbier."
According to a Washington Post's earlier report,... North Korea issued a two-million dollar bill to the U.S. over hospital care costs of Warmbier and insisted that a U.S. official signed a pledge to pay the costs of caring for him while he was comatose.
Citing anonymous sources, the report says the main U.S. envoy that went to retrieve Warmbier signed an agreement on instructions that came from President Trump, that stated the medical bill will be paid.
