Tensions peak at South Korea's National Assembly over a move to fast-track four key reform bills.
The committee for judiciary reform managed to convene at around 9:30 PM local time,... to vote on the fast-track designation,.... but the main opposition Liberty Korea Party is stepping up its offense,... in an attempt to block it.
Four parties,... without the main opposition -- agreed earlier this week to fast-track the bills -- including one on electoral reform,... and another to create an independent body to investigate corruption among high ranking government and public officials.
However, the committee for political reform has yet to convene as Liberty Korea Party lawmakers continue to block the entrance to the building.
The parties had initially tried to fast-track some of the bills on Thursday but it triggered a serious physical standoff between the rival parties.
The main opposition accused the ruling Democratic Party of using illegal procedures to get the bills fast-tracked to suit their political interests... and vowed to resist until the end.
The ruling party condemned the conservative party for what they called "illegal violence" and sued a number of opposition lawmakers involved in the scuffles.
