The Jeju provincial government has cancelled the permit of the Chinese-owned medical center that would have been Korea's first for-profit hospital, …after it missed the deadline to start medical services.
At a press conference on Wednesday, Jeju Governor Won Hee-ryong said Jeju decided to nullify its conditional approval for the Shanghai-based Greenland Group after reviewing the results of a public hearing conducted on March 26th.
He added that Jeju has not been given a proper reason why the hospital's opening had been delayed.
The Chinese group has recently requested an extension to the March 4th deadline …set under the current medical law for the opening of the Greenland International Medical Center.
The medical center received conditional approval from the Jeju government last December, …but would have only been allowed to treat foreign patients.
