he total number of workers at South Korea's top ten companies rose last year overall.
But among those companies... it was different story depending on how well their businesses were doing.
Some were down sharply.
Kim Da-mi has the details.
The respective performance of each of South Korea's top ten corporations in 2018 was reflected in the size of their various workforces.
The total number of workers edged up zero-point-six percent on-year in 2018.
Last year Samsung Electronics had over 100-thousand people on the payroll for the first time in 7 years.
The Financial Supervisory Service credited the semiconductor boom for the expansion.
The tech giant topped the chart for the most workers for the 17th year in a row.
In fact, around three-thousand more employees joined Samsung's Semiconductor and Device Solution teams last year.
After Samsung Electronics, Hyundai Motor and LG Electronics had the largest workforces in 2018.
The number of workers decreased at five other big firms,...mainly due to the poor performances of their affiliated companies, especially in the retail sector.
For instance, the number of people employed at GS Group's GS Retail slumped by almost 15 percent on-year in 2018.
Big losses were also seen at LG Group and Shinsegae Group.
