Dozens killed in fighting outside Tripoli as UN calls for truce
  • 5 years ago
Fighting between rival forces is raging on the outskirts of the Libyan capital.
Thousands of refugees and migrants are locked up in shelters inside Tripoli after a military assault on the city by the eastern Libyan military commander Khalifa Haftar took place on Sunday.
The attack caused around 30 deaths and nearly 90 injuries.
The United Nations is urging forces to declare a two hour truce to evacuate civilians.
But Haftar's Libyan National Army appears intent on continuing the battle as fears rise the country could be plunged into civil war.
