The United States is planning to up its overseas defense capabilities,.. citing increasing threats from North Korea, China and Russia.
The Pentagon is asking Congress to approve a huge boost in military spending for next year,... which includes deploying an additional 82 THAAD anti-missile launchers around the world.
The U.S. currently has seven THAAD systems in operation around the world, including one in South Korea.
The 686 billion dollar budget plan -- one of the largest in U.S. history -- puts a strong emphasis on missile defense.
The move could stir controversy if the U.S. deploys more THAAD launchers to South Korea.
Last year's deployment was met with resistance from local residents and a massive backlash from China.
