South Korea and the United States have recently launched a special committee to speed up the envisioned transfer of wartime operational control.
Seoul's defense ministry said Tuesday that the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Park Han-ki,.. and the commander of U.S. Forces Korea,... General Robert Abrams... led the first meeting of the Special Permanent Military Committee in March.
The generals are expected to meet on a monthly basis to evaluate the South Korean military's core capabilities against the preconditions for the OPCON transfer.
In the latter half of this year, the allies plan to do an initial evaluation of South Korea's operational capability.
If Seoul passes, it's full operational and mission capabilities will be tested in the following years.
