Trump Comments On Manafort Sentencing, Insists 'No Collusion'

President Trump on Friday weighed in on Paul Manafort's sentencing.

President Trump commented on his former campaign chair Paul Manafort's sentencing, noting it was clearly said that there was "no collusion."  "Both the Judge and the lawyer in the Paul Manafort case stated loudly and for the world to hear that there was NO COLLUSION with Russia," Trump tweeted on Friday. "But the Witch Hunt Hoax continues as you now add these statements to House & Senate Intelligence & Senator Burr. So bad for our Country!"  Manafort, who was convicted of financial fraud crimes discovered as part of special counsel Robert Mueller's Russia investigation, was sentenced to forty-seven months in prison, far below the recommendation that he serve up to twenty-five years.  Judge T. S. Ellis III noted at the end of the proceedings on Thursday that Manafort was "not before this court for anything having to do with collusion with the Russian government to influence this election."  Shortly after the sentencing, Kevin Downing, Manafort's lawyer, told reporters: "What you saw today is the same thing that we said from day one. There is absolutely no evidence that Paul Manafort was involved in any collusion with any government official from Russia."
