Lord Shiva is one Hindu god who constantly desires to be cleansed through the Abhishek. There are few essential Samagris (ingredients) that are commonly used in the Abhishek and are considered fruitful for different reasons.

1 The Shiva Abhishek is usually performed on a Linga and at times on the idols of Shiva and Nandi.
2 There are specific reasons why only a set of ingredients are offered by the priests in every Shiva Abhishek.
3 The items like curd or milk and Chandana (sandalwood paste) are used in the Abhishek to pacify Lord Shiva and ease the heat absorbed by the Linga.
4 The mixture of honey and ghee (clarified butter) is used to receive Moksha (liberation) and enhancement of art and talent.
5 Not many people know that even sugar is used during Abhishek. It is said that by doing so one can get rid of enmity.
6 People also blend these items together into Panchamruta (Panch or five holy items) and use it together to receive wealth.
7 The tender coconut water is another cooling agent that is considered as a important item because it provides full satisfaction in life.
8 The Linga is traditionally coated with Vibhuti or Bhasma to transmit energy from Linga to our body.
9 The water is poured on the Linga to receive peace. Along with these ingredients many fragrant oils are also poured down on the Linga.
