1 Gandharva Pushpadanta was a faithful devotee of Lord Shiva. He was the celestial musician and chief poet in the royal court of Lord Indra.

2 Being a Gandharva, he had blessed him with the divine ability of being invisible and to fly.

3 He was named Pushpadanta (literally, Flowery-Teethed) after his teeth, which appeared like the petals of the jasmine flower.

4 It is said that Pushpadanta used to adore all kinds of flowers and plucked only the finest one to worship Lord Shiva.

5 Shiva Mahimna stavam is a famous and most sacred Stotra that Gandharva Pushpadanta had composed to pacify Lord Shiva.

6 Through this Stotra, Gandharva Pushpadanta had explained the great acts of the Lord Mahadeva.

7 Shiva Mahimnastava is regularly sung in the Shiva temples of Northern India, during evening prayers and Arati.

8 It is believed that the benefits of singing this hymn are far greater than any other austerity.
