Khandavprastha was an ancient forest of Khandava near Yamuna river, which is mentioned in the epic Mahabharata.

Khandava forest was occupied by the clans of Asuras and Nagas who were only practicing Adharma.

Lord Brahma had asked Lord Agni to burn down the Khandava forest to end the evil.

With the help of Lord Krishna and Pandavas, Lord Agni cleared the forest by setting up a fire.

Mayasura, a great ancient architect of the netherworld, was rescued from the fire by Lord Krishna.

Lord Krishna had asked Vishwakarma to build a great city which was similar to Lord Indra’s paradise.

It is said that Vishwakarma had constructed a worthy capital for Pandavas which had celestial gardens.

This kingdom also had a grand palace of illusions called Mayasabha, that was built by Mayasura.
