Train derails in eastern India, killing 7

A train came off the tracks in eastern India on Sunday, killing seven people and injuring 29 others.
Two of the injured are in critical condition.
India's railways ministry says the train derailed about 50 kilometers east of Patna, the capital of Bihar state.
Most of the passengers were asleep at the time.
Rescue work was finished on Sunday, and the authorities are investigating the cause.
India's huge railway system is notoriously unsafe for a host of reasons including a lack of maintenance and proper signaling equipment.
Last year, 60 people were killed when a train ran through a crowd of people.
