S. Korea opposes EU's safeguard duties on steel imports
  • 5 years ago
We start off with the South Korean government's protest... against the European Union's plan to impose safeguard duties on imported steel on Saturday.
During a meeting with their counterparts from the EU in Brussels on Friday, Korea's trade ministry said they object to the EU's decision... asking them to reconsider and exclude several categories of steel in their plan.
The ministry also said that the safeguard measures are not compatible with the World Trade Organization's procedural requirements,... adding that if the EU insists on the plan, the government will also take corresponding retaliatory measures.
The EU previously announced plans to impose 25 percent tariffs on more than 20 categories of steel products for two years beginning next month.
