Macron calls for "Yellow Vests" to end violent protests over fuel tax
  • 5 years ago
French President Emmanuel Macron has ordered his prime minister to talk with political leaders and demonstrators to resolve violent protests that have left large parts of Paris in ruins.
Macron assessed the damage after the third weekend of nationwide protests by the so-called "Yellow Vests" movement.
His government, meanwhile, is considering whether or not to declare a state of emergency.
The protests began over increased fuel taxes, but have since grown into wider anger over Macron's agenda.
More than 400 people were arrested in the latest riots and more than 260 others were injured nationwide.
