At the National Assembly,... the standing committees continue reviewing the government's proposed budget for next year worth roughly 4-hundred-20 billion U.S. dollars.
Under the microscope today were human rights in North Korea.
Opposition lawmakers criticized cuts to the budget of the Human Rights Commission which handles that issue, claiming the ruling bloc is reluctant to face the real problem because they're afraid it might affect inter-Korean relations.
The chief of the commission rejected that notion and explained the budget has been shrinking since the North Korean Human Rights Act was passed in 2016.
Meanwhile, it seems unlikely that the spending plan is going to be passed on schedule.
The floor leaders of the two biggest opposition parties -- the conservative Liberty Korea and the centrist Bareun Mirae -- claim to be considering a boycott of parliament.
They want President Moon to dismiss his top aide for civil affairs… amid the continuing row over his appointment of a new environment minister without the assembly's approval.
The also demand the ruling party agree to a parliamentary probe into a hiring scandal.
