Nation at 9: Delhi witnesses thick blanket of smog ahead of Diwali

Amid warnings by the weather officials, Delhi witnessed a thick blanket of smog two days ahead of Diwali. The levels of the pollutant pm2.5 were at a "hazardous" 644 today. This is over 20 times the safe limit prescribed by the world health organisation; visibility on the roads was low despite of control measures implemented by the government. The Supreme Court has banned the sale of polluting crackers in the national capital. Meanwhile politics continues to brew with congress training guns at BJP and AAP Govts for doing nothing to curb pollution.
