The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development held a conference in Seoul today... to share its knowledge on transforming state-owned enterprises.
Officials from the institution talked about the importance of helping SOEs to reform and prepare for privatization so that these transformations benefit the public.
The vice president for Policy and Partnerships at the EBRD highlighted how countries can learn from each other's experience of reform.
"We have accumulated a lot of experience of how you do well in reforming the electricity sector and transport sector...and how we can bring the best quality of service at the lowest cost. The idea of this seminar is to share and learn from experiences from 38 countries, to learn experiences from Korea, and to be able to build on that."
South Korea's Ministry of Economy and Finance also took part, and talked about the nation's efforts in the area... such as evaluating performance and encouraging public participation.
