South Korea is amending the State Public Officials Act.. to strengthen penalties for sex offenses by government officials.
The Ministry of Personnel Management announced... starting next April, government officials who are fined more than 1-million won, or about eight-hundred-eighty U.S. dollars, for any type of sexual offense will be forced to retire.
Those committing sex offenses involving minors will be permanently excluded from public service positions.
Newly appointed officials found to have committed sex crimes, will be prohibited from holding a public service position for three years, or permanently, depending on the severity of the crimes.
The amendment aims to raise awareness of such heinous acts among government officials... and apply the principle of zero-tolerance to sex offenders.
