Trump Lawyer Says Mueller Probe Should Get A ‘Time Out’ If Rosenstein Departs

Jay Sekulow said on Monday that the Mueller investigation should get a "time out" if Rod Rosenstein departs.
President Trump's personal attorney Jay Sekulow said on Monday that special counsel Robert Mueller's probe into Russia's interference in the 2016 election should be put on hold if Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein leaves the Justice Department. Sekulow said during his radio show: "If, in fact, Rod Rosenstein does end up resigning today, I think it clearly becomes necessary and appropriate...that there be a step back taken here, and a review, a review that has to be thorough and complete...and basically a timeout on this inquiry." Fellow Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani later told the Daily Beast that he agrees. Both lawyers' views come as Rosenstein's future remains uncertain. It was reported by the New York Times on Friday that Rosenstein "suggested last year that he secretly record President Trump in the White House to expose the chaos consuming the administration, and he discussed recruiting cabinet members to invoke the 25th Amendment to remove Mr. Trump from office for being unfit."
According to a White House statement on Monday, Rosenstein will meet with Trump on Thursday.
The meeting follows media reports saying "Rosenstein had verbally offered his resignation to White House Chief of Staff John Kelly amid speculation that he would be fired."
